Micro Needling
As the name suggests in micro needling multiple microholes are made in the skin with the help of a device derma roller or derma pen. The formation of these holes stimulate healing, multiple growth factors are released. Ultimately this leads to the induction of new collagen tissue, which helps in treating atrophic scars like acne.
Because the process activated via micro-needling essentially generates new healthy skin cells to replace aged or damaged ones, applications for this procedure are very diverse. It has been used to treat visible signs of ageing, such as skin atrophy and wrinkles, various types of scarring, stretch marks, several types of pigmentation disorders, sun-damaged skin, hair loss, and much, much more.
Dermapen vs Dermaroller
Dermaroller is an old device that consists of a rolling pin covered with tiny needles. During a derma roller treatment, the roller is rolled across the skin, leaving behind a trail of microscopic punctures.
Dermapen is a new automated oscillating device. It has several advantages over derma roller, in derma pen treatment needles enter the skin at a 90-degree angle, eliminating the pain and epidermal tearing associated with dermal rollers. It has a smaller surface area that comes in contact with the skin, which allows it to treat those hard to reach areas quickly, easily, and effectively, which are difficult to treat in derma roller. Also with derma pen depth can be adjusted for different areas of the face. Overall results are better and more consistent with derma pen.
PRP with microneedling
Platelet rich plasma is rich in growth factors. When PRP is used along with microneedling its penetration is increased into skin through these microchannels. Growth factors present in PRP stimulate better healing of microholes made during microneedling and leads to better scar treatment and facial rejuvenation.
Procedure
A topical anaesthetic cream is applied over the face for 45 minutes. After that cream is removed and micro needling is done. There is minimal to no pain. It takes only 10 to 15 min for micro needling. After the procedure, there is mild erythema and swelling which usually subside in a few hours. Usually, multiple sessions are needed at 1monthly intervals.
Botox is a brand name given to the purified form of a neurotoxic protein called botulinum toxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is the most popular antiageing procedure worldwide.
How does it work?
Basically, it is a neurotoxin when injected in a controlled amount it causes decreases muscle power or partial paralysis of muscles. So wrinkles caused by these muscles during a movement called dynamic wrinkles are improved. Also, it ultimately leads to the formation of static wrinkles.
As toxin action is temporary, the injection has to be repeated after a certain time. It can last from 3 to 9 months depending on the indication and individual muscle power.
Indications
It is commonly used to correct forehead creases, frown lines, bunny lines on the nose, crows’ feet around eyes, eyebrow lift and jaw lift, depressed angle of the mouth, facial wrinkles, and gummy and fading smile.
