PRP For Hair Fall
PRP for hair fall is a popular 3-step method for hair fall, which involves drawing a patient’s blood, processing it and then injecting it back into the scalp. Once the blood is drawn, it is processed to make it platelet-rich and then the platelet-rich blood is inserted via an injection into the problem areas on the scalp to organically support hair growth. It is considered that the PRP treatment for hair fall triggers natural hair growth and increases the thickness of the hair shaft. Sometimes PRP therapy is combined with other procedures and medications for better results.
As this hair fall treatment involves injecting your own blood into your scalp; the risk of getting infected reduces by leaps and bounds. However, any treatment that involves injection could cause scar tissue, calcification or cause injury to blood vessels. The therapy normally consists of 3 treatments spanned meticulously in a 4-6 week period along with maintenance treatments that happen every 4-6 months.
PRP-Platelet Rich Plasma
It is a highly sought after non-surgical procedure for stimulating hair growth on the scalp.
Mechanism
It uses your own blood platelets (blood cells) to stimulate new cell growth. It has certain growth factors which stimulate the hair cells, improving their density.
Procedure
Depending on the area treated, a volume of blood is taken. This is usually between 10 to 30 ml. The blood is centrifuged for 15-20 minutes. Once the concentrated platelets are separated from the whole blood, they are injected into the skin of the scalp. The procedure takes around 1-1.5 hrs.
What should you expect post treatment?
The patient can have mild swelling or redness for a few hours. There is no pain after the procedure and the patient can resume his/her normal activities soon after the procedure.
3-4 sessions are required for visibly good results at a gap of 4-6 weeks.
Who all the candidates for PRP?
Any patient can undergo PRP therapy who wants to improve on their hair density. It is not recommended for patients on anticoagulation therapy or autoimmune conditions.
Advantages of PRP

- No need to go bald (as in hair transplantation)
